is there a way to set up a hyperlink in the Notes section, or elsewhere, to a word processing or other file? Or to an email? Outlook has this feature, and I miss it.

I do not think that it is possible to link from a website to a file on your personal computer. You might consider upgrading to a Pro Plus subscription which would allow you to upload and attach files to tasks.
