How do I create NEW tags that show up in the "tag field"?

I have several tags to choose from. However, when I tried to create a "new" tag "CAR" while editing my task inline, the tag disappears after I refresh the page. How do I create a new tag that persists?

When you create the new tag and assign it to a task, it is automatically created. It make take a few minutes for it to appear on your tag list while the server updates.
