Best practice suggestions for tasks waiting on other tasks?

I have some tasks that are pending the completion of other tasks. Which is different than waiting, at least for me.
So far I have just kind of faked this by setting it as a future date. Suggestions for better ways?

You can use subtasks when one task is dependant on another.
Task A has subtask B.
Ensure you complete the subtask (task B) before you complete the main task.(task A).
