I would like my wife to be able to access the todolist independently and update it. Is it possible for it to be shared by 2 people independently or do we both just enter the same account that I have now?

You could both use the same account. The only issue with that is if you are both editing the same task at the same time, it might cause the earlier edit to get overwritten by the later edit. Alternatively, you could each get an account with a subscription and setup collaboration between the two accounts. This would allow each of you to have private tasks as well as shared tasks
