Hi Gary,
Thanks for trying Toodledo and for sharing this feedback — it’s really helpful. You’re right that the current Context field is a fixed concept in Toodledo’s GTD-inspired structure, traditionally used for things like locations, tools, or people. The field name can feel limiting when your workflow naturally separates those categories. A couple of workarounds that might help in the meantime: 1. Use Tags — Tags are completely freeform and can carry any label you like (e.g., @person:Gary, @org:Acme, @tool:Zoom). They’re filterable and searchable, so you can effectively create your own custom context types. 2. Use multiple Contexts creatively — You can create Contexts with prefixes like Person: John, Org: Acme Corp, Tool: Slack to keep them organized in the dropdown. 3. Custom Fields (on higher plans) — Toodledo supports custom fields where you can define a dedicated “Person” or “Organization” field that fits your workflow precisely. That said, we’ve noted your feedback. The idea of having named, typed context categories (People, Places, Tools) is something worth exploring as we develop the platform. What kind of work are you managing in Toodledo? Understanding your use case better helps us prioritize the right improvements. Warm regards, Hasi — Toodledo Team |

Thanks Hasi for your detailed reply - much appreciated
You say context is for "locations, tools, or people" and I agree. Because it is also essential to identify the conditions for the task I need extras. In my case working outdoors weather is important. Two questions: 1. Please, which of your higher plans adds extra fields/columns to the main view in the web app? 2. One more question Pocket informant allows an "event" to be identified. GTD suggests this allows a day in the calendar to be identified as special because it "flavours" the entire day guiding how you approach it. For example, the birthday of a significant other. Are you planning to add this functionality? Warm regards/gary |

Hi Gary,
Really appreciate the thoughtful follow-up — your weather/outdoors example is a perfect illustration of why a single Context field isn't always enough. That's exactly the kind of use case that custom fields are designed for. To your two questions: 1. Custom Fields — Business Plan Custom fields (additional columns in the main task view) are available on the Business plan. This would let you add a dedicated "Weather" field, an "Outdoor Conditions" field, or anything else your workflow requires — displayed right in the table view you're already enjoying. You can see the full plan comparison at toodledo.com/info/pricing.php — but the short answer is Business is the tier that unlocks this. 2. Events / Day-Flavouring — Honest Answer This is a great GTD concept, and Pocket Informant does handle it elegantly. Toodledo currently doesn't have a dedicated "Event" type in the GTD sense you're describing — the closest approximation is using a task with a due date and no specific time, combined with a distinct Tag or Context to signal its day-flavouring nature. It's not a perfect solution, and I'll be honest — a true Event type that surfaces prominently in a daily view isn't on our immediate roadmap. That said, your framing of it is compelling, and I've noted it as a feature request. If calendar integration is central to your workflow, I'd also suggest exploring Toodledo's calendar sync — tasks with due dates surface in your calendar app, which can approximate the "flavoured day" view depending on how your calendar is set up. What's your primary device — are you mostly working in the web app, or on mobile too? Warm regards, Hasi & The Toodledo Team |

Thanks Hasi
Thank you for your honest reply. I will be equally honest too Answering your question about device ============================= I use windows desktop, firefox browser. I am considering an android smartphone to input tasks during the day as I move around the farm. Uncertainty over business plan ======================= I went to the url you listed (toodledo.com/info/pricing.php) but I got a 404 error However, on the page https://www.toodledo.com/subscribe/ it just mentions "Business". When I click on it it suggests that if there are 1-5 employees, the "Plus" plan is the right one. I assume this means the "Business" plan is much more expensive. This toodledo app is just for myself. I am the sole operator of my farm with its grass fed cattle. I am worried that it might be considerably more expensive than the plus pricing. Obviously, I want the extra fields. Equally obviously, it has to be affordable Events/"Day flavour" =============== On the subject of events, I understand you are offering a workaround. I have to be honest with you and say that this is seen as a basic GTD capability. So when you say that it "isn't on our immediate roadmap" I am shocked. warm regards/gary |
