Start dates in calendar on iCal subscription

Hi there
I'll explain this by example:
I have a phone call which I can't make before Tuesday - but it doesn't actually matter whether I call on Tuesday or later in the week.
I want the call to appear in my task list only on Tuesday, but I don't want it to go anywhere near my calendar as it's not a scheduled event.
I'm using 'start date' to achieve this and this is working fine on the website version of the calendar. However, the iCal version, which I use on my phone, posts the call as an event on Tuesday, the day of the start date.
Is this by design?
Is there a workaround that I've missed?
Thanks!

This is a limitation with the way that data is synced to iCal. It isn't possible to have a task with a date that doesn't appear on the calendar.
